about us

what we do

Our goal at Parrots Haven Rescue and Sanctuary is to help parrots and parronts thrive.

We don’t want people’s birds. We’d rather help people keep their companion parrots and provide support.

We focus on education and assistance for those in need as they may be going through temporary hardships or facing an emergency.

We don’t want birds going from one home to another to another to another as every change is traumatic for these highly intelligent sentient beings.

Any bird that cannot be placed in a suitable home due to health or behavioral issues will stay at Parrots Haven in good care for the remainder of its life.

My daughter was in kindergarten and to make our home fun for us I started adopting unwanted pets: two guinea pigs, a cockatiel, two turtles, and two parakeets. I took in a beautiful cockatoo for a few years while a friend underwent shoulder surgery. During those years it seemed everyone wanted to give me their parrots.

I met a neighbor who was at the time the president of Bird Lovers Club in South Florida. I started fostering for them and soon he made me vice president. The club bylaws prohibited them from being a rescue or charging a fee or adopting out in any way, shape, or form. As a result, I started vetting the birds I was fostering on my own. At a point I realized that I had to choose between doing the nonprofit or quitting. I chose the nonprofit.

  • We strive to help people keep their bird family together; when that isn’t an option we will place surrendered birds in suitable homes.

  • We provide shelter, healing, and rehabilitation for found, injured, abandoned, abused, or neglected birds.

  • We provide and promote advice and education on proper avian care and welfare for new and current bird owners as well as for the general public.

it’s the least we can do for our amazing companions that were born and raised in captivity and won’t survive if let free
Our job is to provide a
life for birds as close as possible as they’d have if they were in the wild.
